Apple Valley Minnesota is a young and rapidly growing community within the Dakota County MN real estate market area. Prior to the 1950′s the town consisted of only a few hundred people.
The post WW2 era changed everything, and residential construction boomed at a feverish pace. Then, in the 1960′s, a builder named Orrin Thompson bought up large tracts of land called several of his plats “Apple Valley.” He planted an apple tree in front of every home he built. In 1962, the residents of the area voted to incorporate the town as “Apple Valley.”
Until recently, Apple Valley was mostly a bedroom community, but now boasts a thriving retail sector, entertainment, and, of course, the Minnesota Zoo. The combination of housing choices, commercial amenities, the proximity to Minneapolis and St. Paul, and a highly reputed school system, makes this community a sure-fire bet for Dakota County MN home buyers
Finding Your Next Home in Apple Valley
A good inventory of side-by-side townhomes built in the 1990′s by nationally recognized builders like Centex and Pulte have always been characteristic of the Apple Valley MN real estate market. Right now, it is a buyer’s market for brand new units, including luxury twin homes by Charles Cudd signature homes. Don’t expect this market to last, however. Dakota County is growing quickly, and demographic studies suggest that townhome living will be the lifestyle of choice for homebuyers in the future. This will be especially true for all-one-level townhomes and detached townhomes.
Single family home choices for Apple Valley include something for everyone. If you are looking for new construction, the market is less saturated, but still includes some mid-level priced homes by Ryland Homes and some upscale houses by Manley Brothers, winner of the Trillium Award.
