The area known today as Inver Grove Heights was first settled by Irish and German farmers in the 1850′s, who were undoubtedly attracted to the lush, rolling green hills and the Mississippi Riverscape. It was incorporated as a township in 1858. The arrival of railroads facilitated a major industrial and commercial boom in the 1880s, especially on the northern end of the township.
Today, Inver Grove Heights is home to about 30,000 residents, and census experts predict a population of 44,000 by the year 2020. The city now contains a balanced mix of commerical and residential development amid a wide range of parks and recreation facilities, including a golf course and a community center.
